Importing Records & Multiple Fields with Associations

Video Description

The import tool helps you create records and update your database, by importing data over to your HubSpot.

If you’re using HubSpot, there’s a high probability you’ll be conducting imports. In these videos, Carly provides clear and straightforward step-by-processes to follow when importing data, and when importing data with multiple associations.

Mapping properties

Mapping columns is a step in the Import process when you will be prompted to match the column headers in your file to HubSpot properties. This will lower the possibility of creating errors when conducting the import from your spreadsheet to HubSpot.

In instances where you are looking to import data on multiple objects, such as your contacts and your companies, or your contacts and your deals, you will conduct an import with multiple associations. When mapping the properties, you'll want to make sure you are mapping the column headers to the correct property given the object type. For example, the column header Deal Name will be mapped to a Deal level property. For each object type included in the import, you'll need to have a unique identifier.

Unique identifiers

When importing in one file, you must include a unique identifier to avoid duplicates and properly associate records.

For example, when importing multiple contacts who work for the same company, if you include company domain name as the company’s unique identifier, one company record will be created given that domain name, and the multiple contacts will be associated with that record. If you don't have domain names for your companies, import companies in one file, export the records, then use the Company ID as your unique identifier.
